Overthinking It
Dr. Isley, I Presume

So, I get to thinking about Poison Ivy while reading through the most recent Birds of Prey hardcover; I read the monthlies, but it got my brain working, as it tends to. And it got me thinking about, not Poison Ivy, but Dr. Pamela Isley, PhD botanist. So, she opposes oil companies because of the harm their drilling does, but that brings me around to botany.

If she put her mind to it, could she develop a form of algae that would be cost-effective for producing biodiesel? Would that be a betrayal of her principles? What about a photosynthetic generator?

I know, I know. I’m suggesting reasonable solutions for a crazy person. It’s like saying Joker’d be ok if he’d only stay on the Prozac.

Headcanon

Ev Crawford is Zinda Blake’s grand-niece. This is true, and it will take serious work to disprove it to me.

“Yes. But I am Bane, I endure.”

The rest of the Six are just mad he got to star in a Hollywood blockbuster.

In my ideal world, Babs, Helena, Zinda and Dinah wind up going to this strip club in civilian clothes (I originally wrote “civvies” but realized that could be taken for “skivvies”, and changed it). I do not know why they are there. But I want Gail Simone to write those four in a super-hero themed strip club. That final panel convinced me that it must happen.
It is cheap and exploitative, but, really… I would love to see a parade of superheros meeting their stripper alter-egos.

Black Alice

So, I’ve been reading through Birds of Prey, and came across Black Alice again. Now, I was wondering if Alice “stole” powers, or just mimicked them… at first it wasn’t clear, but later issues showed she did, indeed, steal powers. She had them, you didn’t. She also steals clothes; not just emulates them, but Misfit busts in on her and Oracle meditating, Alice steals Charlie’s powers… and Charlie goes from being dressed as Misfit to being in a sports bra and bicycle shorts.

However, it gets worse than that.

So I think back over Alice’s appearances, and realize how dangerous this girl is. What’s that, Dr. Fate? Need to keep a demon in check? I’m afraid Black Alice is going to take your powers to beat up some bullies. Wonder Woman, fighting Gorilla Grod? Well, Alice is fighting the Birds of Prey… and Wonder Woman goes from Diana of Themsycira to Diana Prince, Wonder Woman… no powers, no clothes. Captain Marvel, flying across the Pacific? I’m afraid you’re going to turn into Billy Batson at Mach 3.

Holy HELL, that girl is scary. She could be incredibly effective against magical foes (Isis, Black Adam, Cheetah)… simply taking their powers and using them against them… but she could also be a horrendous threat to everyone magical on the planet.

No wonder Oracle wanted her to learn control.

Monthly Comics Dump

Going from trades to singles is HARD. I imagine it’s like going from my svelte 350# eating habits to having your stomach stapled. I waaannnnt moooooore. It’s also the chunk of comics without a new Batgirl.

I like what’s happening in Blue Beetle. Brenda and Paco were part of what made Jaime Reyes a great Blue Beetle, though I’m not sure the writing is up to the old par, and I’m gonna miss Tia La Dama… the balance between her as Tia and her as crime boss was great.

Birds of Prey is kinda meh. I love characters, but the thing with Ivy is feels manufactured. And while Babs is always welcome, I’m trying to figure how this fits with her concurrent fight with Knightfall. Batwoman is ok, storywise, but I do like the amount of personal issues that are being dealt with. Kate feels real, whereas the Birds feel kinda like a TV show… plot for the sake of plot, pushed along a bit to make everything fit.

I’m also liking Captain Marvel, btw, but at two issues in, I’m giving it a bit to settle before I call it.

Innuendos galore

Always reblog

Innuendos? What innuendos?

Why, the very IDEA!

After all, innuendos imply subtlety. Those were pretty much outuendos. ;-)
